6.2 पादपों में समन्वय
जंतुओं में नियंत्रण और समन्वय का कार्य तंत्रिका तंत्र तथा हॉर्मोन मिलकर करते हैं। पादपों में न तंत्रिकाएँ होती हैं और न ही पेशियाँ, फिर भी वे अपने परिवेश में होने वाले परिवर्तनों के प्रति स्पष्ट अनुक्रिया दिखाते हैं। छुई-मुई की पत्तियाँ छूने पर कुछ ही क्षणों में सिकुड़ जाती हैं, जबकि अंकुरित होते बीज की जड़ हमेशा नीचे की ओर और प्ररोह ऊपर की ओर बढ़ता है, चाहे बीज किसी भी स्थिति में रखा हो।
उद्दीपन की दिशा पर निर्भर करने वाली तथा वृद्धि द्वारा होने वाली गतियों को अनुवर्तन गतियाँ कहते हैं। ये उद्दीपन की ओर या उससे दूर हो सकती हैं। तना प्रायः प्रकाश की ओर मुड़ता है और जड़ प्रकाश से दूर मुड़ती है, इसे प्रकाशानुवर्तन कहते हैं। गुरुत्व के प्रति जड़ों की अनुक्रिया गुरुत्वानुवर्तन कहलाती है, जबकि जल और रसायनों के प्रति अनुक्रिया को क्रमशः जलानुवर्तन और रसायनानुवर्तन कहा जाता है।
पादपों में वृद्धि का नियंत्रण पादप हॉर्मोन करते हैं। ऑक्सिन कोशिकाओं की लंबाई बढ़ाता है, जिबरेलिन तने की वृद्धि में सहायक है, साइटोकाइनिन कोशिका विभाजन को बढ़ावा देता है और एब्सिसिक अम्ल वृद्धि को रोकता है।
