New NCERT Class 9 Books 2026-27: Ganita Manjari, Exploration and Understanding Society – What Changed

Quick answer: From 2026-27, Class 9 uses new NCERT books: Ganita Manjari for Maths, Exploration for Science and Understanding Society: India and Beyond for Social Science, along with Kaveri (English) and Ganga (Hindi). Chapter names and order have changed, so last year’s notes will not match.

The new books place more weight on understanding, activities and real-life examples. For students this means more interesting reading, but also more pages per idea – which makes good revision notes even more useful in Class 9, the year that lays the base for the Class 10 boards.

Maths: Ganita Manjari

Part I includes Orienting Yourself: The Use of Coordinates, Introduction to Linear Polynomials, The World of Numbers, Exploring Algebraic Identities, I’m Up and Down, and Round and Round, Measuring Space: Perimeter and Area, The Mathematics of Maybe: Introduction to Probability and Exploring Sequences and Progressions. Part II includes Propositions and their Converses, Understanding Data, The World of Algorithms, Quadrilaterals, Two Variables, One Line and Surface Area and Volume.

What changed: probability, sequences and algorithms now appear in Class 9, and coordinates come first. Keep a running page of identities and results as you finish each chapter.

Science: Exploration

The 13 chapters begin with Exploration: Entering the World of Secondary Science and include Cell: The Building Block of Life, Tissues in Action, Describing Motion Around Us, Exploring Mixtures and their Separation, How Forces Affect Motion, Work, Energy and Simple Machines, Journey Inside the Atom, Atomic Foundations of Matter, Sound Waves, Reproduction: How Life Continues, Patterns in Life: Diversity and Classification and Earth as a System.

What changed: more activities and experiments, and new themes on Earth systems and reproduction. For revision, note the formula (for motion, force, work and energy) and the labelled diagram (for cells and tissues) from every chapter.

Social Science: Understanding Society: India and Beyond

The book is released in parts and combines geography, history, political science and economics, with chapters such as Shaping of the Earth’s Surface, Atmosphere and Climate, Early Humans and the Beginning of Civilisation, Democracy, Elections, The Price Puzzle, and later Oceans and Life, Governance and Public Policy, Managing Your Personal Finances and From Ideas to Startups.

What changed: personal finance and entrepreneurship now appear in Class 9. Make a short table for each economics chapter, and a timeline for each history chapter.
